Mousepad Makeover

So I saw a glimpse of Chris’s http://j-a-girl.blogspot.com/2009/02/ive-got-class.html mouse pad in her classroom and decided if she had a cute one I needed to have one. I confess I am a copycat girl.  So I googled a few places and couldn’t find  anything I wanted buy which led me to making my own with the help of  http://modpodgerocks.blogspot.com/(one of my new favorite blogs).  I didn’t even know what Mod Podge was….I know your mouths are wide open in utter shock.  I’m here to tell you I am not a crafty person.  I love the outcome but to actually do it it’s just not me.  She got me to thinking I could just use some cute scrapbook paper and mod podge it to the mouse pad.  So that’s what I did.  I would have used fabric but I have not figured out where all these girls get the super cute fabric.  I have looked at Hobby Lobby  and JoAnne Fabrics here and they don’t carry it.  Past that I’m not sure where to look.  Let me know where you go.   What do you think? You don’t have to point out the fact that it doesn’t resemble a circle any more.  I messed up a few spots when I was cutting but the overall cuteness is there still.    I have another project in the works with the Mod Podge I’ll be showing you this week.

Weekend Fun

Last weekend the boys were at grandma’s so we took full advantage of the weekend.  If you like beer, which I do not but the other half does, you can have a fun Saturday afternoon at Rahr Brewery in Ft. Worth.  It is a free thing, however, if you want to purchase a $5 glass you get 3 tokens and a big glass to “taste” the beers.  I don’t think they keep tabs on the tokens because I thought hubster put them in and he thought I did, nobody ever said anything to us.  The best part of this place, for me, was the BBQ sandwiches from Longoria’s BBQ.  OH MY GOODNESS.  YUMMY!  There isn’t any chairs but I did notice people brought their own and camped out in the back.

Babe’s in Roanoke

That evening we went to Babe’s.  It’s a local “must” we had been told.  You bring your own cooler stocked with beer and wait outside in the chairs. The 1 hour wait outside was the best.   I wonder what people think when they leave their house, do they even care.  I’m no fashionista  and I’ve been known to not look my best when I leave the house but I have NEVER assembled my wardrobe this strangely.  She is listening to an ipod so she is bound to be somewhat with the times but why oh, why does she have on socks and sandals and to show them off wear athletic capris?  I was waiting for the What Not to Wear to swope in and grab her, I know they had to be taping it.

Great wall art

When I started this blog I knew I wouldn't be showing you my own crafty stuff, I'm just not that crafty. I love to read blogs and I love what everyone else can do, it's amazing that you guys can just think up these things with what you have. I wanted to share (and keep track) of all the great ideas out there. I'm not sure how you're suppose to do this either when featuring someone else, so please let me know. How do you get their picture onto your site?

Keeping cool

I have loved Texas from the day we arrived here 9 months. I love the weather, I will not complain about the 100+. Okay, I wish somedays were 90 so we could ride our bikes comfortably. Now there are only a few things that I miss about Indiana and now one of them I have found a replacement for.....Frozen Custard. If you have a Wooley's frozen custard in your area you must go. I am completely addicted! http://www.woolleysfrozencustard.com/

School supplies

(photo courtesy of some other poor mom)

This is the boys first year of school combine that with an over planning mom and you have a crazy parent. As soon as I saw Walmart putting out their school supplies I ran home and got the list I was given when I signed them up and came back up to gather supplies. This should be easy go down the isle grab everything on the list…done. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Who makes these lists and then why does no one in the area carry what they are asking for!!!!!!!!!!!!! Seriously who determines the quantity 50 ct when the packages come 40 ct. A certain color construction paper and they only sell it in a multi color pack. Laminate folders with pockets, what exactly is that the plastic ones or the paper ones that are shiny. Big pencils….really. I’ve been to Walmart, Target and Walgreens. Why would the area not carry the supplies you need!!!!! So you know what I did, I freaked out called my mother in law and told her what I had left to buy. My mother-in-law (who doesn’t live in the same state) can hunt down and find ANYTHING you are looking for. A day later she called to say she has got everything I needed. THANKS!

Now if only I can figure out what to do about lunches. What do you send for your kids lunches. One of the boys will not eat sandwiches and I was told (not confirmed) that they make the kids throw all the food they don’t eat away, even if they didn’t open it or fruit they don’t eat. WHAT!

What’s a girl to do

My husband came home yesterday to find me freaking out, hunting down super glue, wood filler anything that would save my beloved item.  You know how when something you have had for 8 years starts breaking down you start repairs.  I just can’t part with it yet.  Most would say go shopping there’s so many cute ones out there, you’ll find something you like better.  I have been looking but I have never found anything better.  Now I’m not going to post any pictures (I know I hate posts without pictures) until I finish the project I’ll leave you guessing what it is?

This kid is too cute

This kid is quite funny he is terrified of BUGS….ant, water bugs, spider….yet he loves to catch frogs and this one was one of the bigger ones he’s caught.  YUCK!  I will battle the bugs for him if he continues not to ask mommy to touch frogs.  This frog tried to turn into a prince…he turned the frog around to look at it  and well…it must be a prince frog and he is no princess but it leaped right at his lips and missed thankfully yet he still loved it.  GROSS!!!!P1020731

Spray painted glass bottle

So here is the makeover of the bottle I bought this weekend at the one and only garage sale. I like it but I think I would like it more if it was a tad cuter. I might try putting some silver on it or maybe black. Any other suggestions or pictures of a glass bottle you saw that was cute I could copy. Please comment with the link.P1020735

Garage Sales

  1. I have recently started garage saling.  The makeovers around blogland are incredible I want in on it.  I started about a month ago and so far all I’ve come home with is toys for the boys.  That’s what happens when you take 2 4 yrs garage saling or I call it toy hunting.  They are completely into it.  I’ve been pretty happy with my finds…star wars helmet originally $30 I pd $5, transformer helmet originally $40, I pd $1 and she threw in a pair of speedo goggles for the boys, brand new baseball mitt for .25 a few odd toys all .25.  But this weekend on the way home from Walmart I spot THE sign…..I can’t read what it says…..by the way if your going to have a garage sale please make a LARGE very BOLD arrow…I can’t read your address in the fine print as I’m driving….then how about another sign at the front of your street again with a large bold arrow…anyway…I follow the cardboard box squares to the house and at first I don’t want to even stop but I’m there and now I have garage sale withdraw so I head up and what do I see a bottle for painting, (because so many are doing that now) something red (xmas) and a tier basket thing.   Don’t you wish I had a picture of it all….oh, no I’m not quite that good yet with the blog thing and remembering to get the pictures of the before's and after’s so this will have to do.  My mom took the tiered basket thing but here is what I kept.  Oh, and I had started painting the bottle when I realized I needed a before picture but imagine on the top of the bottle twine and a black lid.  I’ll post the after picture tomorrow, the paint is drying right now.

This morning me and hubster went to Canton, TX.  Now we had been told  not go in the summer that fall is best.  Yeah, yeah our kids are gone we going, we love hot weather.  We got there around 10am, we couldn’t have been walking around for more than 30 minutes and there was sweat dripping and I don’t mean just a drop, I mean BUCKETS!!! are pouring off my forehead.  GROSS!  Oh, and I came SUPER prepared I froze each of us  2 bottles of water and brought  a snack bar for us.  We are going to make it through with all this for sure.   Let’s see I believe the water was thawed and drank by 10:45.  The snack bars didn’t make our of the car, the 1 1/2 hr drive will make you hungry!  So after about an hour we decide we need food to help us get through this……. or maybe it was the large fans blowing in the food court that drew us in.  Chad sits down and I realize his shirt is soaked with sweat and I don’t mean a little I mean there was nothing dry and everyone is staring at him, all you can do at this point is laugh hysterically.  So we eat our overpriced food and work up the courage to leave the fans.  We fill up our water bottles….okay now we have food and water we will make it the rest of the way.  So we trek on and 2 bottles of water later, it’s bound to be 2 hrs later and we’ve seen everything we need to see we head to the car…..we arrive at the car and open the door and fire  heat pours out of the car.  We crank the AC and get ready to take off……it had been 30 mins !!!!! from the time we finished lunch….go head laugh at us.   When we moved I was so excited to be moving to warmer climates and everyone said oh, wait until the summer the heat is unbearable.  I believe them now but I still love this place.

West Elm but cheaper

painting

I not only stalk blogs but Rate my space. There is a girl on there that I cannot get enough of her house. I want everything in it and so when she said she bought these canvas pictures from West Elm well, I googled right over there and tried to buy them. But West Elm and I had a difference of opinions on the price and they wouldn’t negotiate so I showed them……I copied and made my own, now for $25 instead of $270 I am a happy girl.

Calling all creative minds

There are so many creative people out there can someone HELP me! My style is very Pottery Barn. (Well, at least that's what I want it to be) I saw a post today that made me remember I still had these hidden in the closet. http://thehappyhomebody.blogspot.com/ I want to put them at the bottom of the staircase landing.

And since this is my first blog I figured I you might want to see some parts of my house to get a better idea of my style.

And if Chris from http://j-a-girl.blogspot.com/ could come stay a week at my house, I know my house would be be-u-ti-ful!
